“My Personal Teaching Philosophy” My personal
teaching philosophy is a multi-faceted approach with a foundation based in
self-actualization and the learning process.
I believe in children and youth learning through enjoyment first, finding
their own way and being all they can be in the sport of their choosing. I believe that it is important to make
learning fun by teaching fun ways to enjoy games and activities. They should also learn the proper
fundamentals of their sport of choosing.
The fundamentals are essential to developing a solid athlete, but to
also develop a love for fitness and exercise for life. My priorities include having a balance of
the 3 domains cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Teaching will involve caring, sharing and
working together to have fun with an activity. Teaching will involve properly learning the
rules of the game and incorporating strategy.
Teaching will also involve moving and doing while physically enjoying
the game or activity. Procedures should
be in place to teach children and youth with empathy, understanding and
patience. Children and youth need to
be empowered with the desire to keep up with fitness, exercise and sport. This can only be accomplished through
strategies to help them to build self-esteem & self-confidence through
fun filled physical education. My experience
as a martial arts instructor for the past 18 years has made my ability to
manage and engage a class in a fun motivating way is an asset to my
creditability as a physical education teacher. Martial Arts are a way of life for me and
it is evident in any project that I volunteer to get involved with. I am a challenging and passionate
individual with the desire to see children and youth to succeed in not just
physical education but in every aspect of life. I believe that children and youth can be
encouraged, motivated and educated on how to have outstanding ethical and
moral values as well as be empowered by health related physical fitness
concepts. As I continue
to grow as a physical education major I am more aware of the fact that
children and youth need to be educated on learning lifetime activities and
functional fitness. I personally
believe that children and youth should aim to be lifelong learners. So through being a physical education
teacher I will help to be a role-model, a motivator and an educator. I will work with other teachers to provide
a diverse and creative learning environment which will foster a love for
learning in all areas of physical education and also other disciplines of
education. |
